9/11 Memorial to be held on September 11, 2019
The Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department will be hosting the 18th anniversary 9/11 Memorial this year on Wednesday September 11th at 8:30 in the morning. The location will be at the Grand Traverse 9/11 Memorial Park located behind the Fire Administration Building at 897 Parsons Rd in Traverse City (Corner of 3 Mile/Parsons). The tentative Agenda can be found here
The Memorial will include a flag lowering by the Metro Honor Guard and Boy Scouts, bell ceremony, inspirational words of remembrance, and bagpipe music. The event should last no longer than 30 minutes. Our guest speaker this year will be the new Traverse City Coast Guard Commander Chuck Webb.
Also in conjunction with the Memorial, local Boy Scouts from the President Ford Council will be honoring the day with a 9/11 perpetual Scout Salute from sun up to sun down. Any area police, fire, EMS, veterans, active military, and citizens who care to join the scouts are welcome. This will take place as well in the Grand Traverse 9/11 Memorial Park.
The Grand Traverse 9/11 Memorial Park however is permanently open 365 days a year and is open for public viewing of the 3300# floor beam from the World Trade Center’s North Tower. The department has placed educational sign boards in the park to show the timeline of events on that fateful day. All are welcome to pay their respects any time of the day or night.
